Łańcut Dominican Monastery – the Wall full of history and undiscovered mysteries
Near the Łańcut Old Market Square, right behind the corner, there stands the majestic Dominican Monastery that has been a witness to prayers and many unrevealed secrets for ages now. Erected in the 17th century, it primarily served as a spiritual and educational centres. Monks were attracted by the faith, of course, but also by the mysterious power of the place. Not only in the spiritual, but also in the… political sense.
Legend has it, in 1674, just after one of the attempts on the life of king John III Sobieski, prince Christopher Radziwiłł, then a guest of the monastery, was hiding here for a few days in fear of revenge. Many spy letters and rumors went through these walls that could change the course of history.
But the place was so much more than politics and intrigues only. Mysticism flourished in these sites too. They say some of the monks had paranormal powers – they could predict the future or talk to ghosts. And at night, when there was full moon and the wind was roaring through the high windows, some claimed to hear unexplained whispers.
